Second week of November, year one

Dear Diary,

Boy, it looks like until flu season is over, I’m going to have a steady stream of temporary roommates. Janie moved back to her room Saturday morning, and by Saturday at 5:00, Ann Smithers had moved in. She’ll probably be here at least until Wednesday. I’ve tried to make both of them as welcome as possible, but inwardly I consider them the human equivalent of a smallpox blanket. I mean you just don’t know if they might have brought some of those little germs with them. I’ve practically been bathing in hand sanitizer.

Ann is pretty cool. She’s a sophomore so she knows a lot of things I don’t. For example, she’s going to graduate a term early, because she took and passed some CLEP tests. It kind of seems to me like you’re missing out on the whole college experience if you don’t take all your classes. Her response: “Tell me that after you’ve taken algebra next term.”
