Ill-fitting sweaters

From The Everywhere Girl Diaries – a work of fiction

Fifth week of December, year one

Dear Diary,

Anyone who thinks a vegetarian Christmas dinner is lame, hasn’t eaten at Ally’s house.  From the pumpkin soup to the eggplant gratin to the ginger brandy cheesecake, it was wonderful.

Despite the fact that I wasn’t with my family, all in all it was a nice Christmas.  I did get my Kindle, as well as the usual gift cards, pjs, and ill-fitting sweaters.  Harry, Archie, Amantha, and Ruth pooled their money together and got me a GE Wireless Security Kit – the same one that Trish had sold us after what I now know was the first of Spectrum’s crimes. With Busty’s, we now have three of them. I thought it was sweet.  Ruth told me over the phone that it was her idea.  She said that she was afraid that someone would break in my room and steal my homework. That would be bad.

I still can’t believe I’m flying to Brazil tomorrow. It’s almost a 20 hour flight, which is about four times longer than I’ve ever been on a plane before. I think/hope I’ve packed everything I need.  I had to keep reminding myself that I was packing for summer temperatures.
