Fourth week of January, year one
Dear Diary,
Yesterday was my first day back at work. I was greeted by a wonderful and totally unexpected surprise. I should have known that something was up when Bert was acting so giddy. I mean Bert is a sweetheart, but he is definitely not prone to giddiness.
I had stopped to talk to him about the fateful night The Pot of Gold Pizza Parlor went up in flames. The whole time we were talking, he just kept grinning and seemed impatient for me to be on my way.
When I got upstairs I found out why. On our door, underneath P Mallard Inc., and in the same burnished gold letters, a new name had been added. Clients coming to 1653 Christmas Point Circle, Suite 556, would find that they were entering the office of P Mallard Inc. & The Everywhere Girl. I was absolutely speechless.
